What is missing from this is all of the other telecom, high speed internet, voip, cell phone providers, etc. that probably never would have had a chance before the AT&T breakup.
Another thing, back in the 70's we paid $70.00 and "bought" our phone as opposed to paying the monthly rental fee to rent our phone. At the time they told us if we did that, that if anything happened to our phone, we were out the money, they wouldn't fix it. Scare tactics. They didn't want people buying their phones. What's a phone cost now? I know I spent about that for a THREE pack of cordless phones. And that doesn't factor inflation from the '70s.
That is freakin hilarious! Who would have thought that capitalism and the free market would lead us back like a group of lemmings!
