I am not really a child of the 80s, but older siblings influenced my musical tastes. I am just in an 80s mood today, I added the following to my collection:
Blondie: Heart of Glass, Call Me, The Tide is High, One Way or Another, Maria
Natalie Merchant: Carnival, Jealousy
Tracy Chapman: Give Me One Reason, The Promise, Change, Talking Bout a Revolution, All That You Have Is Your Soul, At This Point In My Life
Journey: Don't Stop Believing
Soft Cell: Tainted Love
Eurythmics: Sweet Dreams
Foreigner: I Want to Know What Love Is
Nena: 99 Luftballons
Men At Work: Down Under
I am really looking forward to Heart of Glass and Don't Stop Believing. Too good.
I recently attended a hockey game where they brought dueling pianists out on the ice in between periods. I sang every word to Don't Stop Believing and I am not ashamed.
ReplyDeleteI just picked up Genesis' "Land of Confusion" and Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight."
ReplyDeleteGood stuff.
Love me some 80s! I particularly looove Heart of Glass, it's the best to turn up really, really loud.
ReplyDeleteAnd how about a little "Where the Streets Have No Name"? Or anything from Joshua Tree...or "Things Can Only Get Better" by Howard Jones, or perhaps some Tears for Fears, Bananarama, or Depeche Mode.
Those are some of my fave 80s hits to turn up loudd and clearly I was influenced by Bonny and Harry.
I have a testimony of 80's music - or rather KROQ 80's music - it is inspiring - but Foreigner?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I used to listen to "The Promise" right after my freshman year boyfriend left on his mission. Good times.
ReplyDeleteAnd yet another Tracy Chapman note, when I was 8 or 9 I couldn't figure out if she was a man or a woman. I remember slyly trying to find out by saying to Bonny knowingly, "Hannah thinks Tracy Chapman is a woman! Ha!" Guessed wrong.
What about the 80s R&B? I have been digging stuff like "Motown Philly," "Rhythm Nation," and "No Diggity" lately. No comment on whether there is any Wrecks N Effects on my ipod.
